John Mihalko of Johnson City

With deep sorrow, the family announces the death on April 7, 2009 of our Father and “Dido”, John Mihalko, in his 89th year. He was a gentleman who treasured his family and friends.

John was predeceased by his devoted wife of sixty years, Mary (June 2008). He is survived by two sons, John D. Mihalko (Binghamton) and David M. Mihalko (Johnson City), three grandchildren, Adrian J. Mihalko (Syracuse), Dustin and Marissa Mihalko (Johnson City), two brothers, Andrew (Wilma) Mihalko and William Mihalko, three sisters-in-law, Catherine Dobransky, Helen Kaspryk and Marion Kaspryk, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. John was also predeceased by two brothers, Michael and Stephen Mihalko, a sister, Mary Mihalko, daughter-in-law, Alexis M. Mihalko, brothers-in-law, Michael and Peter Dobransky and John Kaspryk, and sisters-in-law, Anne D. Petras and Anna Dobransky.

John served in the U.S.Army in the campaigns of Africa, Italy and France. He worked in the Payroll and Accounting Departments of the Ozalid Corporation for over forty years. John was an active member of St. John Ukrainian Orthodox Church, serving for many years as auditor, usher and caretaker. He served as one of the original directors of St. John’s Social Club and also worked as bartender for catered affairs at the Memorial Center.

The family would like to thank the staffs of J.G. Johnston Memorial Nursing Home and Wilson Hospital, South Tower 3, for their care, concern and compassion.

Funeral Information

Friends will be received at the Chopyak-Scheider Funeral Home, 326 Prospect Street, Binghamton on Thursday, April 9th from 4-7 where a Parastas (prayer service) will be held at 6:30p.m. Rev. Father Zinoviy Zharsky will celebrate a Funeral Service on Friday, April 10th at 10a.m. at St. John Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 1 St. John’s Parkway, Johnson City with interment to follow in the parish cemetery.

Donations Information

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in John’s memory may be made to the Cemetery Fund of St. John Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
