Mrs. Anne Smetana

December 15, 1922 - April 19, 2009

Our beloved mother, Anne Smetana, 86 fell asleep in the Lord on Sunday morning, April 19, 2009, at Wilson Hospital.
She was predeceased by her husband, Michael Smetana in 2005.
She is survived by her two daughters; Gail Stanley of Johnson City and Sharon and her husband Lon Spaulding of Highland, NY, a son; Philip Smetana of Merritt Island, FL, four grandchildren; Teresa Stanley of Johnson City, Mrs. Ryan (Lauri) Bonnell of Rochester, Alan and Christopher Spaulding of Highland, NY, two great grandchildren; Nolan and Brynn Bonnell, three sisters; Eleanor Horsky, Margaret Nasiatka, and Rose Evans and many nieces and nephews.
She came to the United States from Czechoslovakia when she was six years old. She graduated from Woodrow Wilson Elementary and Binghamton Central High Schools. She was a member of St. Michael’s Greek Catholic Church and its Ladies Guild.
She was an excellent cook of ethnic foods. She enjoyed spending time with her family; camping, summers at the family cottage and her winters with her son in Florida, and giving hugs to them. She also enjoyed golfing, reading, sewing, listening to polkas, waiting on tables at St. Michael’s Hall and working with the Broome County Board of Elections.

Funeral Information

Funeral services will be held Friday 9am at the Chopyak-Scheider Funeral Home, 326 Prospect Street Binghamton and 9:30am at St. Michael’s Greek Catholic Church, 292 Clinton Street Binghamton where a Bright Week Funeral Service will be celebrated by the Very Rev. Protopresbyter James Dutko. Burial will be in Riverhurst Cemetery. Rev. Dutko will conduct a prayer service Thursday 4pm at the Chopyak-Scheider Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Thursday 4-7pm.
