George Metrus of Johnson City

George Metrus 90 went to be with the Lord on Wednesday morning, March 3, 2010 at the NYS Veterans’ Home in Oxford. He was predeceased by his wife Mary (Matson) Metrus in 1997, a brother, William Metrus and two sisters Rose Seman and Irene Yerger.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law Dennis and Elaine Metrus, two grandchildren; Nicholas and Lindsey Metrus, three sisters; Helen Szczepanski, Mrs. Donald (Florence) Laszewski, and Mrs. Richard (Jane) Hider, three sisters-in-law; Anne Perrault, Helen Galus, and Diane (Raymond) Vozdovic and many nieces and nephews.
He was a member of St. Michael’s Greek Catholic Church. He spent many years working at the family owned Cardinal Café on Clinton Street before going into the service. He was an Army Air Corps Veteran of WWII. He was a retired employee of the IBM Corporation, Endicott. He loved his family and enjoyed dancing polkas with his wife and golfing with his friends. He was a lifetime member of the Binghamton YMCA

Funeral Information

Funeral services will be held Monday 11am at St. Michael’s Greek Catholic Church, 292 Clinton Street Binghamton, with Very Rev. Protopresbyter James Dutko. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the Chopyak-Scheider Funeral Home, 326 Prospect St. Binghamton on Monday 9-10:30am.
